Fall in the Lake Champlain Region is always a fun time with harvest activities and fun, educational, and entertaining events. Here are four of our favorites coming up in the next month or so. But don’t forget to check the entire calendar for lots more.

Taste our local foods and culinary delights

On the 20th of September, make sure you don’t miss A Taste of Local Food Festival in Elizabethtown. Hosted by the Adirondack History Center Museum in conjunction with Adriondack Harvest, the public is invited to come and sample culinary creations from local chefs and restaurants. There will be a variety of small portions available by ticket purchase from several exhibitors. The event is free, with tickets sales for the sampling. There will also be a dessert competition for dishes created with local apples. Live entertainment and activities in addition to the showing of the film, Small Farm Rising. Activities get underway at 11 a.m. and continue until 2:30 p.m.

Who doesn't love horses?

Fort Ticonderoga has some really cool events year-round, and you can learn about history during the American Revolutionary period and on into the early 19th century. One of our favorite events each year is the Heritage Harvest and Horse Festival on September 27th. Celebrating the sights and sounds of fall - oh, and some food as well - this festival is a full day of all things autumn. There will be wagon rides, sack races and a host of family fun activities in addition to the focus on the powerful part the horse has played throughout history at the Fort. Demonstrations of equestrian sports and powerful working horses will take place throughout the day as well as a harvest market in the King’s Garden. Top off your day with a visit to the Heroic Corn Maze, a six acre maze in the shape of the Fort. Find your way by selecting clues connected to the history of the Fort.

Gathering of classic cars

If you’re into classic and antique cars and trucks, make sure you drive over to Port Henry on October 4th for the 4th Annual Town of Moriah Car and Truck Show. Classics of all sizes and types will be on display at the Knights of Columbus on Main Street. Come on over and maybe you’ll find your favorite old classic and relive your younger days!

Celebrate the apple!

Columbus Day Weekend in Crown Point is a must-do. Mark your calendars for the Penfield Homestead Museum AppleFolkFest on the 12th, an annual benefit event celebrating - you guessed it - the apple! The craft fair and flea market open up at 10 a.m., along with the museum. Tastings of every kind of apple dessert you can conjure up will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in addition to chili and hot dogs. Live music will entertain the crowd throughout the day.

In the meantime, check out the entire calendar of events and find out what’s going on when you’re in the area.  Fall is a beautiful time of year in the Lake Champlain Region, so plan to spend a weekend or a few days poking around all the back roads with some of the most beautiful views in New York State and the Adirondacks.
