Celebrate Theodore Roosevelt’s Legacy in the Adirondacks - 125 years later

TR Weekend is Newcomb's premier event, celebrating Theodore Roosevelt's remarkable journey from the High Peaks wilderness to the White House after President McKinley’s assassination in Buffalo, NY. The weekend features a wide range of events for all ages, from outdoor activities and historical tours to crafts, music, and delicious meals. The event brings the community together to honor Roosevelt's legacy and experience the beauty of Newcomb and the Adirondacks.

Friday, September 11

  • 4:30–6:30 PM - Dinner by NCS Class of 2027‍ ‍| Newcomb Central School Cafeteria

  • 6:00–8:00 PM - Friendly Feud Game Night (Co-sponsored by NCPR)‍ ‍| Newcomb Central School Auditorium

Saturday, September 12

  • 7:00–8:30 AM — Breakfast by NCS Class of 2028 | Overlook Park

  • 8:30 AM–3:00 PM — Santanoni Wagon Ride (TR Wagon Ride RSVP 2026) | Great Camp Santanoni

    1. Plan for a FREE wagon ride into the Great Camp Santanoni with a Santanoni tour guide. Bring your lunch, comfortable walking shoes, and ride by horse drawn wagon.

  • 9:00–11:00 AM — Kids Fishing Derby | 5435 NY-28N

    • Family-friendly catch-and-release fishing competition with special prizes.

  • 10:00 AM–12:00 PM — Climb Goodnow Mountain | Goodnow Mt.

    • Guided or self-paced hike up Goodnow Mountain offering panoramic views from the fire tower. Meet Interpreter Mike Gooden at the Fire Tower. He will have some history and facts.

  • 10:00 AM–3:30 PM — TR Weekend Craft Fair | Overlook Park.

    • Artisan goods, handmade crafts, and local vendors.

  • 10:30 AM–12:30 PM — Timber Sports Scrimmage | Overlook Park

    • Timber Sports Scrimmage featuring ESF and Paul Smith students.They need our support to keep their competitive edge, so lets cheer them on!!

  • 11:00 AM–2:00 PM — Car Wash NCS Class of 2028 | Health Center Parking Lot

  • 11:00 AM–2:00 PM — Bake Sale NCS Class of 2028 | Health Center Parking Lot

  • 12:00–2:00 PM — Vintage Car Show | Overlook Park

    • See classic, antique, and restored automobiles.

  • 12:30–2:30 PM — Live Music with Michele & Tyler Peter | Overlook Park

  • 3:00 PM – Dave Gibson Conservation Talk | Seeley Exhibit Hall

    • Well-respected conservationist Dave Gibson speaks on the history of Adirondack conservation from TR to the present, focusing on today's developments and the park's future. Bring your questions! Front porch of the Newcomb Historical Museum Administrative Building (Seeley Exhibit Hall across from Overlook Park).

  • 4:30–6:00 PM - Dinner NCS Class of 2029 | Newcomb Central School Cafeteria

  • 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Reenactment & Keynote Speaker | Newcomb Central School Auditorium.

    • Watch a reenactment of Theodore Roosevelt being sworn in as the 26th President following his famous midnight ride from Lake Tear of the Clouds. Speaker Joe Wiegand will present following the ceremony.

    • Pre-Register with Jolene at 518-582-2991. No age requirements. Be there at 8:30am, race starts at 9am.

  • 8:30 AM–3:00 PM — Santanoni Wagon Ride (TR Wagon Ride RSVP 2026) | Great Camp Santanoni

  • 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM – Theodore Roosevelt's Midnight Ride Bus Tour

    • Historic Bus Tour: Board the bus at 9:30 AM in the Seeley Exhibit Hall / Newcomb Community Center parking lot. The tour returns to Newcomb at approximately 3:30 PM. Stops Include: MacNaughton Cottage, Tahawus Club, Theodore Roosevelt Marker on 28N, Aiden Lair, Minerva Community Center (for lunch), and the North Creek Museum and Depot where TR boarded his train.

  • 10:30 AM–12:30 PM — Santanoni Preserve Wilderness, Wealth, and a President | Santanoni Preserve

    • Come explore the history of Santanoni Preserve, the former Adirondack retreat of Robert and Anna Pruyn. This guided tour highlights the connection between the Pruyns and Theodore and Edith Roosevelt, whose lives intersected through the influential social circles of business, politics, and outdoor recreation.
