In depth

The Town of Crown Point spans more than 80 square miles, but its hamlet is a warm, welcoming small town. Situated directly on the Adirondack Coast, Crown Point connects the Adirondacks to all of New England via the Lake Champlain Bridge.

Crown Point State Historic Site, adjacent to the bridge, boasts two National Historic Landmarks - Fort St. Frederic and Fort Crown Point. There is also a museum and interpreters to tell the story. It also happens to be a very popular birding spot. This location is the eastern terminus of the North Country National Scenic Trail, which stretches more than 4,000 miles to North Dakota. While at the historic site, make sure to enjoy the Champlain Memorial Lighthouse, New York State Campground, and Lake Champlain Bridge Heritage Area. Don't forget to stop by the Lake Champlain Visitors Center for all the region's information!

Ironville, a separate hamlet of the town, is known as the “birthplace of the Electrical Age.” Learn about this first industrial use of electricity, as well as the town's rich iron mining industry and its involvement in the Civil War, with a visit to the Penfield Homestead Museum.

New York state and Crown Point boat launches provide easy access to Lake Champlain for recreation.
