Champlain Area Trails Grand Hike 2026

Join CATS for the Grand Hike on Saturday, May 9, a signature celebration of Champlain Area Trails and its remarkable town-to-town trail network. Experience an unforgettable day of fresh air, camaraderie, and the scenic beauty of the Champlain Valley’s low-peak mountains and rolling farmland.

This year’s 16-mile hike showcases mostly trail routes and features four well-stocked comfort stops with food, water, and restrooms. Organized parking, enhanced on-route amenities, and convenient shuttle options make it easy to tailor your adventure. Choose your distance with available shortcuts ranging from 3 to 16 miles, and connect with fellow hikers along the way.

The hike begins at The Whallonsburg Grange in Whallonsburg, NY, and finishes at Twin Valleys Outdoor Education Center in Lewis, NY, where a festive post-hike celebration awaits. Enjoy live music, local food and drinks for purchase, outdoor games, and participation from community organizations as we celebrate your accomplishment together.

All hikers will board a bus at the Essex County Fairgrounds in Westport for transportation to the start. You may also begin at one of the designated comfort stops or take a shuttle directly to the finish-line celebration from the Fairgrounds.

The hike starts at 10 AM.

Registration fees:
$45 per person if registered by May 4
$50 per person after May 4
$55 per person on the day of the event
Children under 18 hike free

Every registered participant receives an event t-shirt.

Everyone is welcome at the post-hike community celebration, even if you’re not participating in the hike. We hope to see you there.
