As the United States approaches its semi-quincentennial in 2026, the Lake Champlain Region serves as a living classroom. Across the region, a series of historical reenactments, commemorative ceremonies, and community gatherings have been scheduled to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States.

June: Historical Perspectives in Art

  • June 13 – July 15 | Ti Arts: Images from the American Revolution A month-long gallery exhibition at Ti Arts featuring specialized artwork and visual documentation exploring the figures and landscapes of the Revolutionary era.

4th of July: The Semi-quincentennial Commemorations

The first week of July serves as the peak of the America 250 celebrations, with events across several historic communities.

  • July 1–5 | Ticonderoga: Best 4th in the North & America 250 Carnival A multi-day community event featuring a traditional carnival, live music, and public festivities centered in Bicentennial Park.

  • July 2–3 | Crown Point State Historic Site: The Army Returns and Council of War. A historically accurate recreation of the 1776 Council of War. This event depicts the strategic decisions made by Continental leadership following the retreat from Canada.

  • July 3–5 | Fort Ticonderoga: Independence Day Weekend The Fort’s premier signature event for the 250th anniversary, focusing on the arrival of the Continental Army and the defensive preparations of 1776.

  • July 3 | Port Henry: Waterfront Farmers Market America 250 Weekend A commemorative market at the Bridgeview Harbour Marina, highlighting local farms and regional history.

  • July 3–4 | Town of Essex: Independence Day Weekend 4th of July celebration held within the historic Town of Essex, with old school games, music, and food.

  • July 4 | Westport: 4th of July and America's 250th Celebration. The Westport community concludes the holiday with a formal celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Late July: Festivities to Keep the Momentum Going

The historic celebrations continue past the holiday weekend, with immersive reenactments and community milestones scheduled throughout the end of the month.

  • July 24 | Hancock House: 1776—High Hopes A presentation by historian Brian O'Connor exploring the early optimism, strategic miscalculations, and harsh realities faced by both sides at the start of the American Revolution.

  • July 26 | Keeseville: Keeseville 250th Celebration A community parade honoring the nation's milestone anniversary, followed by an afternoon of food, crafts, and live entertainment at JC Park.

  • July 28 | Fort Ticonderoga: Real Time Revolution Reenactment—"Today We Are a Nation Among the People of the World" A signature one-day event capturing the historic moment the Declaration of Independence was first read to the troops at Ticonderoga exactly 250 years ago.
