The Grange Lyceum Series presents: Why Should We Protect Grassland Birds in the Adirondacks
Why Should We Protect Grassland Birds in the Adirondacks?

Hyla Howe, Mass Audubon’s Grassland Bird Biologist, will make the case for protecting grassland birds in the heavily forested Adirondack Park. Beginning with her graduate research based in the Champlain Valley and High Peaks region and transitioning into her new role as Manager for the Bobolink Project, she will share what she has learned about the declining bird populations, the people and landscapes that support them, and what we can all do to help.
Hyla lives across the lake in Milton, Vermont, but considers the Adirondacks to be home. She started studying Bobolinks at Heaven Hill Farm in Lake Placid in 2021 and received funding from the Uihlein Foundation to expand the project into a graduate thesis at the University of Vermont. When she is not working, Hyla spends her time wandering in the woods with her dog, skiing, and biking.
