Essex 4th of July Celebration
Essex 4th of July Celebration
On July 3 at 9 p.m., fireworks will blast off on the southern side and eastern end of Blockhouse Road. Visitors must drive to Blockhouse Road from Middle Road. Blockhouse Road will be blocked off to vehicle traffic at Route 22.
And the July 4 parade starts at 11 a.m. at the church aside the intersection of Route 22 and Blockhouse Road. It ends south on Route 22 at School Street, just past the town hall or downtown at 1 p.m. Parade participants include elected officials, local businesses, non-profit organizations, firemen, first responders, the Police Pipes and Drums of Plattsburgh, floats, an old Peugeot automobile and probably American Legion veterans.
And when the parade ends, family fun continues in front of the town hall. The local Too Tall String Band will play for three hours starting at 1 p.m. The band’s musical genres include Celtic, Adirondack, Americana and country. The group also performs original tunes.
There will also be activities, including a dunking booth featuring Essex Supervisor Ken Hughes, face painting by Penelope the Clown and a kid’s bounce house. Sausages, hamburgers and hotdogs will be sold.
