As America approaches the 250th anniversary of the formation of the country, there’s no better place to reflect, celebrate, and connect with our nation’s origins than right here in Ticonderoga. This region isn’t just rich in natural beauty; it’s steeped in the very history that helped shape the United States.

Long before fireworks and parades marked our independence, the shores of Lake Champlain were alive with pivotal moments that defined a nation. At Fort Ticonderoga, visitors can stand where, in 1775, a small but determined group of Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold captured the fort in a bold pre-dawn raid, one of the first American victories of the Revolutionary War. Today, that same spirit comes to life through immersive reenactments, living history demonstrations, and special anniversary programming that brings the past vividly into the present.

Just a short drive away, Crown Point State Historic Site offers another window into the region’s strategic importance. Overlooking Lake Champlain, this site tells the story of both French and British fortifications and the ever-shifting control of this critical corridor. During the 250th commemorations, visitors can explore the property, heritage events, and interpretive programs that highlight the site’s role in the broader narrative of early America.

Throughout the Town of Ticonderoga, the celebration continues with community events that blend history with hometown pride. From parades, carnivals, and live music to family-friendly activities and local dining, the town embraces both its past and its present, offering visitors a chance to experience the warmth and spirit that define this special place.

These anniversary events are more than a look back; they are an invitation to be part of something enduring. They remind us that the story of America began in places just like this, shaped by courage, resilience, and a vision for the future.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking to take part in a once-in-a-generation celebration, Ticonderoga offers a meaningful and memorable way to honor 250 years of American independence.
