Wabi-Sabi: Imperfect Beauty Exhibit

Whitcomb’s Arts is pleased to present, Wabi-Sabi: Imperfect Beauty, showcasing the art of Becky Johnson and Danae Fasano Dehne.  The exhibition runs from March 26 to April 25 with an opening reception and artist talk on Friday, March 27th from 5-7pm.

Two local artists, Becky Johnson and Danae Fasano Dehne, embrace Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese aesthetic, in their work - creating reclaimed wood art and ceramics that highlight the beauty of imperfect, textural, and rustic materials. They shape their own creative vision by welcoming the irregularities that give each piece its character - whether it’s the history etched into salvaged wood or the way Shino glazes naturally ‘crawl’, adding unpredictability to the firing. By appreciating wood’s grain and patina and engaging with the dynamic interplay of fire and glaze, they treat nature as an active collaborator. Each artist crafts one-of-a-kind pieces that honor this partnership.

Danae Fasano Dehne is a ceramic artist living in Willsboro, NY. Her work explores heritage, nature, ritual, and connection. She creates sculpture and functional ware emphasizing texture, movement, rich earth tones, and organic form. Her practice centers on pieces that enrich the home and garden, invite mindfulness, and become part of daily rituals.

Becky Johnson is a reclaimed wood artist currently living in Keene Valley, NY.  Moving to the area in 2012, she has been inspired by her relationship with her surroundings and creatively influenced by her work ‘fixing-up’ her current home.  Becky reflects that “from recognizable landscapes to abstracts, and natural tones to bold colors, what connects the pieces together is the process of co-creating with the wood that I have on hand, experimenting with weathered farm fencing, barn boards and renovation scraps to create a wood canvas.”
