Seed Sowing Workshop with the Adirondack Garden Club
Join Champlain Area Trails in Supporting the Adirondack Garden Club on Friday, January 23rd , at the Whallonsburg Grange.
Join a seed sowing workshop led by horticulture experts and help the Adirondack Garden club in their work to tackle invasives and plant native species in the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve, owned by Champlain Area Trails.
In 2024 and 2025, the Adirondack Garden Club successfully sowed over 700 seeds at Champlain Area Trails' Essex Quarry Nature Preserve. This year, they plan to grow more ephemerals, sedges, and perennials like Hepatica, bloodroot, False Solomon’s Seal, red columbine, and several types of goldenrods and asters.
During the workshop on January 23rd, they will sow seeds in milk jugs and 4-inch pots, leaving them outside in the snow for cold stratification. Once the seeds germinate in spring, the seedlings will be planted at the quarry. Join us for this easy and cost-effective hands-on activity!
