CATS Working Hike at Essex Quarry Nature Preserve
Join CATS on Friday, December 12th, at 9 a.m. for a Friday Working Hike at the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve!
Date: December 12th
Time: 9 AM
Location: Essex Quarry Trailhead, 2215 Lake Shore Rd, Essex, NY 12936
Are you looking for an outdoor adventure while giving back to the community? Join Champlain Area Trails for a Friday Working Hike at the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve. This is considered an easy trail. The trail travels around the quarry, through mixed forests, and along the edges of farm pastures. Expect to walk up to 2 miles.
During this working hike, we will engage in trail maintenance activities, primarily focused on removing invasive species such as buckthorn. We will also perform lopping, hand-sawing, and cleaning tasks to make the trail safer and more enjoyable for all hikers. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts, and contribute to preserving this fantastic community trail.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Tools: Champlain Area Trails will provide loppers, and hand saws but feel free to bring your own tools if you prefer.
- Safety Gear: Bring gloves and protective eyewear (if using a string trimmer).
- Hydration: Don’t forget to bring water!
- Snacks: Pack some snacks for energy during the hike.
- Clothing: Dress in warm layers and footwear that can get muddy.
