Author Tim Brookes: A Hell of a Place to Lose a Cow: Hitchhiking Across America

In the summer of 1973, Tim Brookes did what everyone did in those days: he hitchhiked around America. Twenty-five years later to the day, starting from exactly the same on-ramp on Interstate 80, he did what nobody was doing any more: he went back out on the road with his thumb out, this time as a National Geographic expedition to rediscover America, to rediscover hitchhiking, and to see if there was anything left of his 20-year-old self. The result was his award-winning book A Hell of a Place to Lose a Cow, a lot of
stories, and a lot of surprises, some of them having nothing to do with asphalt.

About Tim Brookes:
Tim Brookes was born in England and educated at Oxford before moving to the United States in 1980. Tim is an editor, guitarist, teacher, soccer coach and author of 17 books and numerous articles and essays. He lives in a 19th-century farmhouse overlooking Lake Champlain.
