Lake Champlain is a haven for birders, especially those seeking waterfowl! Whallon Bay is an expansive bay that is often a place to spot something exciting, such as grebes and ducks.

Birding

Whallon Bay is most easily viewed from Albee Road south of Essex, and is a good place to look for ducks in the winter when mixed species flocks will feed in the bay. The flocks often include Mallard and American Black Ducks, but other dabbling ducks may be mixed in with these more common species.

Any species found in the Champlain Valley is possible to view here. The bay is also good for finding wintering Horned Grebes and diving ducks, such as Common Goldeneye.
