Our best-kept secrets

Where are the fish?

Lake Champlain is consistently ranked by Bassmaster as one of the top bass fisheries in the nation, known for both its stunning scenery and exceptional fishing quality — including ranking in the top 5! If you speak with pro anglers, though, they might just give it the top spot.

The trout fishing is outstanding, but the real excitement comes in the spring and fall when landlocked salmon run. These salmon have been in the lake since the Ice Age, trapped inland as the glaciers melted, and the population has been thriving ever since. For the best salmon fishing, cast in the spring below Willsboro, with fall runs extending farther upriver. During the winter months, it's common to see ice fishing shanties scattered across frozen lake. We’re not great at keeping secrets, so read on to learn how you can make the most of your fishing trip in the Lake Champlain Region!
