Westport Area Fields
44.143414, -73.429956
The fields and woodlots south of Westport support a variety of breeding birds including warblers, field birds, and year round red-tailed hawks. It is easiest to cover the area by driving Dudley, Napper, and Stevenson Roads off of Route 22.
Winter birding
The area is most popular with birders in the colder months when wintering and migrating raptors such as rough-legged hawks and northern harriers hunt in the fields. Northern shrikes are also regular visitors in the winter, and birders should check out fields for tree sparrows and horned larks during that time of year as well. Dudley Road also intersects Lake Champlain at Cole Bay, a worthwhile stop for ducks in winter.
