Established in 1799, Willsboro is the oldest lake town in Essex County. Location: Northeastern New York, at the mouth of the Boquet River on the shores of Lake Champlain. The long peninsula of Willsboro Point provides a protected bay which is very popular docking with sailors.
Two full-service marinas on Willsboro Bay, Indian Bay Marina and Restaurant and Safe Harbour Marina, offer a chance to dine by the water. Or treat yourself to a fantastic meal in town at the Turtle Island Café, which is rated as one of the area’s finest restaurants by The New York Times.
Noblewood Park offers sweeping views of Lake Champlain, Vermont’s Green Mountains, the Boquet River, and the Adirondacks. Here visitors have plentiful opportunities for birding, paddling, swimming, and camping while taking in the spectacular scenery of the Champlain Valley. Rattlesnake Mountain is a great day hike for enjoying the spectacular views of the entire area.
No visit to Willsboro would be complete without a visit to Adsit Cabin, reputed to be one of the oldest surviving log cabins in the country. Built in the late 1700s by a veteran of the American Revolution, the tiny cabin housed a family of sixteen.
