In 1775, the Continental Congress created the Northern Department of the Continental Army to oversee northern New York and surrounding regions. This area saw the first major expansion of the Revolutionary War and bore the brunt of British attacks, leading to the pivotal American victory at Saratoga. Today, the modern Northern Department connects historic sites across New York, Vermont, and Québec to share the powerful legacy of this region during the Revolution’s 250th anniversary.
