Mount Inez is a charming summit located in Lewis, New York. The summit view is grand, and the trail officially opened in 2025, making it one of the newest additions to Adirondack hikes.

The former name of Mount Inez was Mount Discovery. The mountain was renamed in 1916 by the town of Lewis to honor Inez Milholland, who was a well-known suffragist known for her voting rights acitivism. The name change was not officially recognized at the federal level until recently, as the U.S. Board on Geographic Names officially approved the name change to Mount Inez in late 2019.

Hiking Mount Inez

The trail starts gaining elevation moderately until it reaches the northeast ridge of Mount Inez, where it bears right rather sharply at around 0.6 miles in. From here, the trail gets a bit steeper, with some switchbacks sprinkled in to make some sections easier.

At about 1.5 miles in, you reach the summit, which offers big views of the Boquet Valley, the Jay Range, and over to Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains in Vermont.

Mount Inez in the winter

Being a relatively new trail, expect to break trail up Mount Inez. Snowshoes and microspikes are highly recommended. Be prepared for any and all winter conditions, especially on the partially exposed summit area.

How to get there

From the four corners by the post office in Lewis, take Lewis-Wadhams Road east for 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Ray Woods Road and the parking lot is about a quarter mile up the hill on the left.
