Ausable Marsh State Game Management Area Hiking

How to get there

From the intersection of Route 373 and Route 9 north of Keeseville follow Route 9 toward Plattsburgh. Continue for 4-miles to the marsh entrance on the right, a DEC sign marks the road.

Trail Description

From Route 9 you may have to hike along the access road depending on the condition of the road, but generally it can be driven. You will cross under the railroad tracks to a trail register. From the register the trail heads through a gate and continues flat through the marsh which is also a management area. A couple short side paths lead out to different locations. The old access road through the marsh continues on for some time; but often becomes swamped and flooded especially in the spring of the year.

You can also access the marsh from the State Campground a bit further up Route 9. There will be a day-use fee at this location.

Round Trip Distance

Dependent on loops chosen, anywhere from a 1 mile out-and-back to a several-mile loop
