The open water as well as the concentration of Common Mergansers, Mallards, American Black Ducks, Common Goldeneye, and other species can also attract bald eagles to the area, so keep your eyes open for them.

Begg’s Point Park, just south of the ferry terminal offers another view of the area.

The Essex Ferry area is a good place to look for wintering waterfowl during the cold months. The ferry terminal can be particularly attractive to waterfowl during cold winters when much of the lake freezes, but the ferry operation keeps water open.

In warmer month, it's provides a nice view of the open lake, though it can be busier with human traffic since the ferry is popular.

A lovely place to see migrating and water birds.
Acquatic birds abound on the Adirondack shores of Lake Champlain.
