TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Area Farmers’ Market returns this spring with a preview market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at 1114 Wicker St. (Wicker Wood), near the Walmart entrance (across from Christopher Chevrolet Buick).
This event is part of the National Small Business Week celebration in Ticonderoga taking place from May 1 to 7, with an emphasis on thinking local, which is being organized and coordinated by the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is also the main sponsor and organizer of the Ticonderoga Area Farmers Market.
“While it is too early for produce to be offered, it is an opportunity to showcase the market site and invite the community to stop by for the many outstanding products that are available such as fresh local meats, eggs, maple syrup, balsam products, baked goods, artwork, crafts and more,” said June Curtis, market advisor. “On the eve of Mother’s Day, this early Farmer’s Market is perfectly timed to provide an endless number of options for a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration. Bright and colorful hanging plants will be plentiful. Annuals and perennials as well as herbs will be available just in time for spring planting at home.”
A bake sale is planned for May 7 at the site to benefit the 2016 Farmers’ Market. It is hoped that many loyal followers of the local food movement in Town will make their way to patronize the vendors and stop in at the Bake Sale to support the market. The proceeds from this sale will go toward presenting live music during the coming season.
“Participating in National Small Business Week for the first time in 2015 was successful. This celebration will become an annual practice and weeklong event for the Chamber,” said Matt Courtright, Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce executive director. “I’m delighted that the Farmers’ Market has agreed with great enthusiasm to partake in National Small Business Week for the second year. THINK LOCAL reflects their mission and is their reason for being.”
Farmers, vendors, businesses, local artists and organizations interested in participating in the market should contact the Chamber at 518-585-6619, email@example.com, or stop by the office located at 94 Montcalm St. in downtown Ticonderoga.
The regular season for the Ticonderoga Area Farmers’ Market will take place Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from July through mid October. One of the main sponsors for the 2016 Ticonderoga Area Farmers’ Market is the Town of Ticonderoga. The Chamber is seeking additional sponsors for the market to ensure its remains sustainable for the farmers, vendors, community and visitors.
