Incredibly, there’s more to fishing in the Lake Champlain region than the big lake itself. Several rivers – notably the Boquet and La Chute – run into Lake Champlain and provide quality fishing for trout, bass and salmon. Eagle Lake in Ticonderoga is known for its brown trout population, and there are countless smaller brooks and ponds where you can have the kind of fishing day you been dreaming of. In addition to the state stockings of fish, the Essex County Fish Hatchery annually stocks waters with yearling and 2- and 3-year-old trout.

Trout Release Schedules

Spring trout stocking begins in March and runs through May. To see schedules, visit the Fish Stocking pages on the DEC website.
